About Surgical Hair Restoration / Hair Transplant

Surgical hair transplantation / hair transplant is the process of taking hair from the back of one’s head, where there is an abundance, and moving it to balding areas.  In the past this was done in groupings of 10 to 20 hairs, “plugs.”  This is not done at Premier Surgical Hair Restoration.  We place individual hair follicles in very small holes which results in a very natural appearance - this is hair transplanting.   This is done in the office using a mild sedative and local anesthesia.  It takes 7 to 10 hours, depending on the number of hairs transplanted.  Some patients will need a second procedure if balding is severe.  This will be discussed at the time of initial evaluation.

Initially all of the transplanted hair will fall out.  New growth will begin at approximately three months after surgery.  Six months after significant hair growth should be seen with a definite change in appearance.  Final results can be seen at one year after transplant.  No second procedure will be undertaken prior to one year after the operation.
